The Society of Archers
held at Settle, North Yorkshire
on the 16th day of September 1929

Settle 16th September 1929

Be it remembered that on this day eight gentlemen archers assembled at Settle on the ground of the North Ribblesdale Archers, to compete for the Antient Scorton Arrow.

Be it also remembered that the day was bright and almost windless.

Be it also remembered that shooting commenced at eleven a.m. and continued for two hours in the morning and for two hours in the afternoon.

Be it also remembered that this day John Yates, Royal Toxophilite Society, with his sixteenth arrow was the first Archer to pierce the Target in the Gold and so became Captain and holder of the Antient Scorton Arrow.

Be it also remembered that Colonel Aspinall Turner, North Lonsdale Archers, with his sixth arrow was the first Archer to pierce the Target in the red and thus became the Lieutenant and Holder of the Silver Bugle.

Be it also remembered that luncheon was partaken at the Ashfield Hotel and the usual bottle of wine was provided by the New Captain.

Be it also remembered that the expenses of the meeting amounting to £4-13-0 were divided among the Archers, according to custom.

Be it also remembered that after luncheon the Reverend G Hayter proposed and it was without dissent resolved by the Archers there present that Archers born in Yorkshire be eligible to compete for the Thirsk Bowman’s Insignia and that this Resolution be subject to confirmation at the next meeting.

Be it also remembered that a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the members of the North Ribblesdale Archers for allowing the use of their ground.
