The Clerks Report
Be it recorded that the Captain, Lieutenant and Gentlemen of The Society of Archers assembled at 10 0’clock on the 30th May 1981 at Brearly Fields , Mytholmroyd for the 273rd recorded meeting in the 309th year of the Society.Eighty one Gentlemen took part in the commencement of the shooting on a glorious sunny morning.
The first item of note was the piercing of the Red by the Captain Mr G Foster in the First End thereby becoming the Lieutenant and holder of The Silver Bugle for the ensuing year.
The second item of note was the piercing of the Black spot within the Inner Gold in the second end by Mr L Broughton who thus became The Captain Elect and holder of Antient Silver Arrow for the ensuing year.
Shooting continued for two hours in perfect conditions after which the Captain and Gentlemen retired to partake of an excellent lunch at the Mytholmroyd Community Centre and to hold the 273rd recorded meeting of The Society.
Shooting resumed and continued for approximately two hours whereafter the Gentlemen retired for tea and The Presentation of Prizes by The Captain’s Lady, Mrs Vera Foster.
Money collected for the poor of the Parish £18.27.

Minutes of the 1981 Meeting
Minutes of the 273rd Recorded Meeting of the Society of Archers held at the Mytholmroyd Community Centre on the 30th May 1981.
The Captain of the Arrow proposed the Loyal Toast and this was followed by toasts to the Arrow and to the Captain and Lieutenant elect.
It was noted with regret the passing of Ernest Dervi, a past Lieutenant and longstanding member of the Society.
The minutes of the 272nd meeting were read by the Lieutenant, accepted by the members and duly signed by the Captain.
Matters Arising: It was confirmed the silver plates donated by Mr Alain Holt and Mr George Stockham had been affixed to the base board of the Ben Hird Memorial Trophy. The Society gratefully accepted an antique punch ladel offered by Mr Alain Holt and agreed that it should form part of the Scorton group of trophies, taking precedence after the Ben Hird Memorial Trophy. It was agreed that the ladle be awarded annually to the longbowman recording the highest score.
Accounts: The Clerk to the Captain reported the balance at the bank had increased to £28.42. Bob Bayston was elected to the post of Assistant to the Clerk to the Captains. It was agreed that the ceramic ashtrays created to commemorate the first shilling meeting be sold for £2.00 each.
Permission was granted to Miss Anne Southeram to display the 5th Volume of the Society’s Records.
An archery book was given by Major Roger Crees to be awarded to the longbowman with the most golds at this year’s meeting.
Correspondence: Apologies were received from Messrs S S Henderson, G Harris, R Batty, R Hardy and B Wells.
Appreciations: The Captain expressed his thanks on behalf of the Society to the Ladies for scoring, to Calderdale Education Authority for the use of grounds, to the White Rose Archers for their support, to the Judge for his services and to the Clerk and to the Captain. There being no further matters to consider, the Gentlemen then withdrew to continue shooting.
