It is hereby recorded that on the eighteenth day of August in the Year of Our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and fifty one, the two hundred and forty third Meeting of the Ancient Scorton Silver Arrow was held at the Village of Scorton, near Richmond.
Be it remembered that this being the first time in two hundred and seventy eight years, the Arrow was returned to the Village where, in the year sixteen hundred and seventy three, the first recorded contest was held.
Be it also remembered that fifty archers did assemble to compete for the Antient Silver Arrow and other Trophies.
The first item of note was the piercing of the red by Mr G G Ellison of Harrogate, who did pierce it with his third arrow, thus becoming the Lieutenant and holder of the Silver Bugle for the ensuing year.
The second item of note was the piercing of the “Three inch Gold” by Mr Frank Newbould of Knaresborough, who did pierce it with his third arrow, thus becoming the Captain and holder of the Ancient Silver Arrow for the ensuing year.
Shooting for the other Trophies then continued, and after two hours, the archers adjourned for lunch.
Be it remembered that at the conclusion of the Luncheon the minutes of the last Meeting were read, confirmed and duly signed.
Be it also remembered that Mr Frank Petty generously said that he would provide Captains Badges for those who did not possess them.
Be it remembered that W/Cdr J P M Woolley generously offered to donate the die for the Lieutenants’ badges.
Be it remembered also that Mr C W Nettleton, the Judge, generously said that he would provide the required Lieutenants’ badges.
Archers responded with a hearty handclap and Mr Ben Hird proposed a toast for their generous gifts.
Be it remembered that three archers inadvertantly using oaths were only fined one shilling each and the monies were paid to Charities.
At the conclusion of the shooting, Prizes were most graciously presented by the Lady Paramount Lady Lawson.
