Be it recorded that 117 Gentlemen met at Easingwold in the 318th year of the Society and shooting commenced with the Captain and Lieutenant defending their titles. The Lieutenant was successful in retaining the Bugle with a fine shot into the Red. The Gentlemen then followed and to the great pleasure of all present, John Geldard, a longbowman, struck the inner Gold at the first end, becoming the Captain-Elect.

Luncheon was taken after two hours and the Annual Meeting of the Society then followed. A further two hours shooting in the afternoon in very pleasant weather concluded the meeting. Tea was taken and the Arrow and Trophies were presented by the Captain's Lady.

Minutes of the 1990 meeting


The Captain invited the Lieutenant to read the Minutes of the 281st Meeting, from which there were no matters arising. Apologies had been received from Colin Read, Harry Grace, Sam Brock, Alain Holt, John Crockett, Roland Dartnell, Bill Wales and Geoff Gaunt. We record, with regret, the death of Jack Percival, of Scarborough.

The Clerk read the gracious reply from HM the Queen to our loyal message. It was noted that the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire was considering an approach on our behalf to HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, to become Patron of the Society.

The taxman was reported to have dealt with us kindly regarding the Reserve Fund which stands at £700.67.

The appointment of George Penman by the Council of Captains as Deputy Clerk to the Society was confirmed with acclaim. Gifts in support of the Reserve Fund included a Parker pen, a voucher from Mary Howis, an engraved plate from the host Club, and wine. It was agreed that these should be raffled. The gift of Volume V1 from Frank Newbould was received with great appreciation.

There being no further matters the Captain closed the Meeting at 2.55pm.
