Be it ever remembered that the 274th recorded meeting of the Society was opened by the sounding of the Lieutenant's Bugle. The Captain, Bud Broughton and the Lieutenant, Gordon Foster opened the shooting on a cloudless, warm day. The first item of note was the piercing of the Inner Gold by Barry Norbury, who thus became Captain-Elect, and the second item of note was the piercing of the Red by Jim Melvin who became Lieutenant for the ensuing year, both at the first end! Shooting continued until two hours had elapsed, then luncheon was taken, followed by the Annual Meeting of the Society. At the close of the day's shooting, tea was taken, 8 trophies were awarded by the Captain's Lady Mrs Jean Broughton. The Loyal Toast was followed by toasts to the Arrow and the Society. The Minutes of the 273rd Meeting were read and accepted, and duly signed by the Captain. Apologies were received from S Henderson, W Kirk, A Holt, W Wales and R Hardy. The Clerk reported that accounts still stood at £28.42. A moments silence was observed for the passing of Jack Flinton, and it was agreed to make an entry in volume V of the Society's Records in his honour. Mr Anthony Wood was welcomed as Master of the Worshipful Company of Bowyers, and as a Past Captain (1949) commented on the changes. Lengthy discussion led to agreement that the Clerk refer the matter to the Council of Captains. Collection for the Poor of the Parish £17.18 |
