Paul Sugden's (of Firth Archers) being adjudged the best - he was proclaimed to be Lieutenant Designate. Shooting continued until the second item of note, the Inner Gold was pierced by the eleventh arrow of Bob Bayston (Burton Constable Company of Bowmen) who thus became Captain of the Arrow for the ensuing year. Luncheon
was taken at one o'clock, followed immediately by the Annual Meeting (the
Minutes appear below). Shooting resumed, late, in the continuing heavy
rainfall - but was drawn to a premature close at four o'clock by the Captain,
Mr D Aitkin. After Tea the Prize giving by the Captain's Lady concluded
the proceedings for this year. |

Minutes
of the 1976 meeting
|
|
Toasts to: the Arrow; the Captain - and Lieutenant designate then followed. Apologies: for absence from Messrs: A and D Holt; and E Robinson; accompanied by their best wishes for the day, were received. The Minutes of the 267th Meeting were read by the Lieutenant Mr F Lister, and after correction to the `venue` were signed as a true record. Matters Arising: The Clerk reported upon the Stock (itemised below) and upon the difficulties attending the approaches for Royal recognition of the Society (and permission was given for the continuation of the pursuit of that goal): Past Captain Mr A Wales proposed a vote of thanks to the Clerk, and these were duly accorded by all present. Correspondence: regarding the continued use, and the retention of, the sixpenny piece was noted. Any Other Business: A message of congratulations for dispatch to the President of the United States of America upon the occasion of their Bicentenery was approved; it was agreed that "notes for the Guidance of Competitors" shall accompany the Notice of Meetings; in answer to a question from the floor, announcement of Burton Constable Hall as the next Venue (subject to the owner's consent) brought a request for an approach road - map, noted by the Captain designate: The Clerk's Stock and Accounts reports (below) were noted and accepted: The matter of the current national "Sex equality" policy - and any possible effect upon Scorton Arrow Meeting was raised and discussed - any question of Lady competitors was firmly dismissed. The Meeting concluded with the expression of real appreciation: to the scorers, particularly after such weather conditions (let their longanimity be remembered): and, to the retiring Captain for both the excellent meal and his arrangements for the shooting and the Meeting.
