Pursuant to custom Mr Albert Kiddy, the Lieutenant, blew a note on the Silver horn to begin the competition. The first item of note when the Lieutenants prize was won by Mr Tony F Hampson with his second arrow at the first end. The second item of note was the winning of the Captain's prize by Mr D Aiken who was first to pierce the inner gold at the third end. At 1pm the Archers went to the pavilion for lunch after which the annual general meeting took place. Mr A Kiddy proposed the loyal toast. Mr D Theaker (retiring captain) proposed a toast to the new captain. Mr A Kiddy (retiring lieutenant) proposed a toast to the new lieutenant. Mr A Kiddy read the minutes of the last meeting. The following proposals regarding the Tercentenary year were put forward by the Society of Past Captains:- i That the Tercentenary Year be held in 1973. ii That Mr R Crees should be approached to prepare an application for Royal Recognition in the T.C. Year. iii That a group photograph be taken of all competing archers at the T.C. year. iv That there shall be a re-enactment of the inaugural shoot of 1673 in period dress, using longbows. This to be in the form of a tableau. v That souvenir brooches and programmes be given to all archers competing in the T.C. year. vi That subject to the agreement of the Captain for that year, it was recommended that the T.C. Celebrations should be held at Scorton on the nearest Saturday to the 14th of May. vii That suitable dress should be worn by all archers. viii That entry lists be closed two months before the meeting. ix The Captain to arrange for TV and Press cover. x That invitations be sent to representative bodies to attend as guests. xi It was reported that the amount collected at the last meeting was £37 which was invested in Premium Bonds in the names of S S Henderson and F Newbould. The receipts are held by S Smith. xii That Mr Jack Flinton should be asked to join the Society of Captains. C H R Batty questioned the date of the T.C. Year and suggested that it should more accurately fall in 1972 and not 1973 as this would then be the 301st recorded meeting, and proposed that this should be put to the vote. Seconded by T Musgrove. S S Henderson proposed that the T.C. Year should be held in 1973. Seconded by H B D Todd. The vote was carried overwhelmingly, by 34 against 12, to hold the T.C. Year in 1972. The proposition that the entry lists be closed two months before the T.C. Meeting was defeated. It was agreed to defer consideration of the tableau proposal until next year. Money collected for oaths and handed over to the Vicar of St John's of Totley for the poor of the parish totalled 13 shillings. On the proposal of Mr F Newbould, seconded by Mr E R G Harris, the remaining proposals were adopted. Mr N Wales proposed a vote of thanks to the outgoing captain Mr D Theaker. Mr D Theaker thanked the archers present for helping to make this meeting so enjoyable.
