In the first end Mr J Crockett pierced the red with both arrows, one of which was adjudged to be more central than the red shot by Mr W Marshall in the same end. The Lieutenancy was awarded to Mr Crockett but as he, with his seventh arrow, pierced the inner gold, he became Captain of the Arrow and relinquished the Lieutenancy to Mr Marshall. Shooting continued for two hours when lunch was taken in the Clarendon Hotel, followed by the annual meeting. Apologies for absence were received from Mr L Bellinger (Lieutenant), Mr J Yates and Mr D Hill, also, be it remembered, the absence of Mr Jack Flinton was regretted by all assembled. Past Lieutenant Mr A Dobson deputised for Mr Bellinger. Be it remembered that following the suggestion made by Past Captain Mr S S Henderson, it is duly recorded here that the original Scorton Arrow parchment of 1673 is now in the custody of the Archives Department at the County Hall, Northallerton, having been treated for its preservation. The Captain proposed a toast to the Captain-Elect, Mr J Crockett, complimenting him on his success at his first Scorton meeting. Mr Ben Hird was called upon to toast the Society and the Arrow. He gave the company an interesting account of his recent activities to discover further facts about the origin of the Arrow. Immediate past Captain Mr D Holt proposed a toast to the Captain, thanking him on behalf of the Company for the excellent arrangements (including the weather!). Before closing the meeting the Captain expressed a wish to record a number of acknowledgements for facilities, equipment and service which had made possible such a wonderful day. Be it remembered, therefore, that the Society's gratitude was accorded the following:- Harrogate
Corporation. Finally,
the Captain paid tribute to his wife for her valuable assistance, also
for accepting the role of Lady Paramount and graciously presenting the
prizes as recorded hereunder:- |
