RESULTS 1931

|
Be it remembered that on this day nineteen gentlemen archers assembled on the ground of the John O'Gaunt's Bowmen to compete for the Antient Scorton Arrow and having drawn lots pursuant to custom began shooting at eleven o'clock of the forenoon. Be it well remembered that Br General V de Falbe, Woodmen of Arden and Society of Lichfield Archers, with his First Arrow pierced the target in the Red, thereby becoming Lieutenant and Holder of the Silver Bugle. Nevertheless the aforesaid Archer and Captain M G Hogg, Royal Toxopholites, each with their Seventh Arrow pierced the target in the Gold and Br General de Falbe's arrow being judged the most Central he was declared the winner and thus became Captain and Holder of the Antient Scorton Arrow. Be it also remembered that according to rule Br General de Falbe on becoming Captain, resigned the Lieutenancy which fell to Mr G B Adamson, Stretton Archers, who having already pierced the target in the Red with his Fifth Arrow now became Lieutenant and Holder of the Silver Bugle. Be it also remembered that Mr G B Adamson, Stretton Archers, also acquired the Antient Horn Spoon he having obtained the worst hit in the White Colour at the last end. Be it also recorded that luncheon was enjoyed in a tent on the ground of Springfield Park and that the outgoing Captain Lt Colonel A T Porritt, North Lonsdale Archers, provided the wine in accordance with the new Custom inaugurated in 1930. Be it also remembered that after luncheon the minutes of the last meeting were read, confirmed and signed. Arising out of these minutes it was reported that the Trophies and Records of the Society and the Trophies of the Thirsk Bowmen had been severally insured in a total sum of £124-10-0 at an annual Premium of 12s 6d under a Lloyd's Policy through Messrs Muir, Beddall and Co Ltd, Insurance Brokers of 37 Gracechurch Street in the City of London. Be it also remembered that the expenses of the meeting amounting to £8-18-0 were divided among the Archers present according to custom. Be it also well remembered that on the proposal of Dr P F Mannix, John O'Gaunts, seconded by Mr John Yates, Royal Toxophilites, it was agreed to revive a Committee appointed under a Rule passed in 1902 for the purpose of assisting the Captain to ensure the continuance of the Competition and the preservation of the Trophies and Records of the Society. That Lt Colonel A T Porritt, North Lonsdale Archers, and Messrs B H Satterthwaite and R T Sanderson, both of John O'Gaunts were appointed to form the Committee and Mr R T Sanderson kindly consented to draw up the necessary document. Be it also remembered that the following hearty votes of thanks were passed:- To
John O'Gaunts Bowmen for allowing the use of their ground. |
