Be it well remembered also, that with few exceptions, the Scorton Arrow Meeting had been held every year from 1673 to 1913. Owing to the Great War no meetings were held from 1913 to 1920 and through lack of support no meetings were held from 1920 to 1925. Be it remembered that today Dr P F Mannix, John O'Gaunts Bowmen, with his eighth shaft was the first archer to pierce a Gold and thus became Captain and holder of the Antient Silver Arrow, and that Mr Ben H Satterthwaite, John O'Gaunts Bowmen was the first to pierce the Red and thus became Lieutenant and holder of the Silver Bugle. Be it also remembered that during the interval for Luncheon which was held at the Golden Lion Hotel, Settle, the question of the alteration to the Rule relating to the place of Meeting was discussed, when it was proposed by Major R E Stuart of Wold Newton Hall, Hunmanby, Yorks, and seconded by Mr P McEvoy of Abbeylands, Settle, a member of the North Ribblesdale Archers who acted as Judge at this meeting. 'That the resolution passed in 1869 with regard to the place of Meeting should be altered to read, and any part of Yorkshire and Lancashire'. This was agreed to by the Archers present and ordered to be advertised with the next notice of Meeting. It was further agreed that subject to the kind permission of the North Ribblesdale Archers, the next Meeting be held on their ground at Settle. Be
it also remembered that according to custom, the expenses of the Meeting,
amounting to £3-14-6. The Prizes were presented by Mrs Edgar, to whom a hearty vote of thanks was passed, also to the Members of the North Ribblesdale Archers for allowing the use of their ground and for so kindly entertaining the Bowmen to tea. |
